From The Collective

Uniting Tradition and Community: 13 Collective blends the essence of our South Asian heritage with the ethos of selfless service. We ensure that our cultural roots not only stay vibrant but also extend their supportive reach to enrich and strengthen our diverse community.

About

Welcome to 13 Collective, a grass roots non-profit inspired by a profound concept rooted in Sikh culture. Our name, derived from the Sikh word "Tera," embodies the dual meaning of the number 13 and the phrase "Yours," reflecting our commitment to serving the South Asian community with a spirit of unity and selflessness. At 13 Collective, we embrace the philosophy of 'Seva', or selfless service, as our guiding principle. Our journey begins with an inaugural group cook in June 2024, a collaborative effort to provide nourishing meals to families in need, in partnership with other nonprofits. This event marks the first of many, as we aim to host a few group cooks annually.

Our vision extends beyond these cooks. We aspire to establish a dedicated kitchen space, fostering a communal environment where groups and organizations can engage in the rewarding experience of preparing meals together. This initiative not only serves those in need but also strengthens bonds within the community and to our roots.

In addition to our culinary endeavors, 13 Collective is dedicated to addressing vital issues in the South Asian community through our upcoming Wellness Series in 2024. This series will explore a range of topics, including mental health, generational trauma, alcohol abuse among men, the challenges of independence among women, the experiences of students and immigrants, and the exploration of our roots. We recognize the diversity of our community's needs and strive to create a platform that is adaptable, whether through workshops, seminars, or other formats, to best serve our collective.
